Burning of Falmouth
The Burning of Falmouth in 1775 was a turning point in the lead up to the American Revolutionary War. The complete destruction of the town laid the foundations for the future town motto “Resurgam”, Latin for “I will rise again”.
War comes to Maine
Maine was not a major front in the Revolutionary War, but it did play a role. Benedict Arnold’s calamitous march through Maine and the disastrous Penobscot Expedition were emblematic of the rigors of Maine’s wilderness and the difficulties of planning.
